John Freeman is a panoramic landscape photographer and retired electronics engineer based in Longmont, Colorado. With more than 60 years of photographic experience, he specializes in creating ultra-high-resolution landscape photographs that reveal extraordinary natural detail and can be reproduced at architectural dimensions while preserving exceptional native-image detail.

Combining his background in computer-based instrumentation, software, and electronics with his passion for photography, John has spent more than 15 years developing and refining specialized techniques for producing exceptionally large panoramic images. His photographs frequently exceed one billion pixels, with some reaching more than 10 gigapixels. His advanced photographic methods combine hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of individual exposures using precision panoramic equipment, focus stacking, and sophisticated image-processing techniques.

John's photography focuses primarily on the natural landscapes of the American West, including its national parks, mountains, deserts, waterfalls, and forests. His photographic travels have also taken him throughout Alaska, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, and other destinations. His objective is to create photographs that capture both the grandeur of a landscape and the intricate details that make each location unique.

The exceptional resolution of John's photographs makes them particularly well suited to large-format fine art prints, architectural wall murals, and immersive installations in corporate offices, hospitality environments, healthcare facilities, museums, visitor centers, and public spaces. His photographs have been licensed for large commercial installations, including architectural-scale wall murals in the United States and Australia.

John was a featured artist in Issue 161 of Landscape Photography Magazine, which has also published numerous examples of his landscape photography over the years, including photographs of Devils Tower in Wyoming and the Moeraki Boulders in New Zealand. His ultra-high-resolution photographic work has received additional media coverage through DPReview and Yahoo Tech.

An experienced photography instructor, John has taught workshops in advanced panoramic photography and focus-stacking techniques, including multi-day workshops in Ouray, Colorado. He continues to share his knowledge through individual instruction. In June 2025, John began developing Virtual Rocky Mountain National Park, a free, interactive photographic journey through one of America's most spectacular national parks. The project allows visitors to explore immersive panoramic views of numerous locations throughout the park, accompanied by informative narration.
